There are 239 painted round figures that catch the eye of visitors who can admire the painted heavenly and earthly figures. From the Ante-Room there is a door in the corner that leads to the basement where there is an exhibition about the old Medieval Abbey of Syon, which was on the site before the mansion was built. For those who like history, this exhibition is a plate full of curiosities and objects found during excavations. The Long Gallery also features what Adam described as “a style to afford variety and amusement”. In the 15th century, this was the site of a large and very wealthy abbey housing a Swedish monastic order, unusually accommodating men and women, known as the Bridgettines.
In the 1880s, palm trees and giant bamboos reached the top of the glass dome, but the social and political disruption resulting from the First World War led to a period of decline for the site. To reach the bedroom area, one must climb the main staircase of the house, which leads to the hallways of the bedroom remodeled by the 3rd Duke in the 1830s and 1830s. Two bedrooms here are decorated in an Edwardian style and were used as a nursery. For the current Duke and his brothers when the family stayed in the house during the spring and summer.
